WEEK 4: DIGITAL COMPETENCES AND VIDEO EDITING

WEEK 4: DIGITAL COMPETENCES AND VIDEO EDITING      In the blink of an eye, a month has gone by, and during the final week of October, we were introduced to become digitally competent learners. This week, Dr Lina enlightened us about the European Framework for Digital Competence of Educators, a topic that was entirely new to me. As in previous sessions, she made use of Mentimeter to teach us about this framework and to engage us in answering questions. The engagement and enthusiasm of the students were evident in their responses to the questions.      In summary, DigCompEdu proved to be a useful tool for improving our understanding and honing our digital skills for effective teaching in the digital era. However, I won't dwell too much on this framework in this blog; instead, I'll focus more on the exciting journey of video editing in the tutorial session.      Dr Lina kicked off our video editing exploration by introducing us to D...

WEEK 3: EVIDENCE-BASED TEACHING STRATEGIES

WEEK 3: EVIDENCE-BASED TEACHING STRATEGIES      Before I realized it, the third week of the class had already begun. During this week, I had the opportunity to review what I had previously studied in class and discover new techniques for learning. In this week's lectures, we were introduced to evidence-based teaching, along with the top six strategies: graphic organizers, manipulatives, reciprocal teaching, interactive teaching, assessment for learning, and cooperative learning. In our tutorial session, we implemented a new cooperative learning strategy to explore these six strategies - the jigsaw method.        The most remarkable part of the lecture was when Dr Lina instructed the students to shared their answers to her customized questions. It enabled us to learn more about the thoughts and motivations of the students, which can further promote teacher-student relationships. It is crucial because a positive relationship between instructors...

WEEK 2: LEARNING AND APPLYING TEACHING STRATEGIES

WEEK 2: LEARNING AND APPLYING TEACHING STRATEGIES In our second-week classes, Dr. Lina introduced us to a variety of teaching strategies and associated theories. At the start of the class, she employed the Wheel of Names  (https://spinthewheel.app/what-to-draw-2joe) to randomly assign us to groups. I had no idea with whom I would be grouped, which added an element of excitement to the process. Random group assignments offer introverts like me, as Liljedahl (2014) suggests, a valuable opportunity to meet new friends. As a result, I befriended Aimi and Junyang, both new year 2 students. After the lecture, Dr. Lina assigned us the task of designing our mini micro-teaching session within a 10-minute timeframe and presenting it to our peers. She emphasized the need to choose a strategy from the document provided on the Moodle page and seamlessly integrate the theories we had learned during the course into our teaching. Additionally, Dr. Lina reminded us to follow the micr...
